CLIFTON KOK LLP INTRODUCES "BILL 106 READINESS REVIEW" PACKAGE
Bill 106 – which introduced changes to the Condominium Act, 1998, and other legislation through the Protecting Condominium Owners Act, 2015, and the Condominium Management Services Act, 2015 – has received Royal Assent, and sometime within the next 6-12 months it is expected that many, if not all, of its provisions will begin to come into force as the regulations that support and clarify it are prepared and published. The legal team at Clifton Kok LLP has endeavoured to examine the various changes introduced by Bill 106 and what they will mean for condominium boards, managers and unit owners. To help prepare for the implementation of the new law, from April 1 to June 30, 2016, we are offering a “Bill 106 Readiness Review” package as a service to our condominium corporation clients. See this letter for details.

CK LLP founding partner, Mark Kok, has started a new blog to share information about wills and estates. “The Estates Nutshell” blog is dedicated to a clear and concise discussion of issues relating to estate planning and administration in Ontario. The blog starts with the most basic and foundational concepts and builds from there. Questions and comments are very welcome at our new dedicated estates law email, estates@cklegal.ca. Read the blog here.

In addition to our new estates law blog, “The Estates Nutshell” (see it here), CK LLP has started a new social media campaign to increase public awareness of the need to have a will. The campaign involves a series of memes describing some historically famous deaths - sometimes darkly humorous and sometimes just unusual - that help to emphasize the suddenness and strangeness by which death can come, and, therefore, the importance of having your estate in order at all times. Each meme concludes with the imperative suggestion, "Update your will".
You can view the whole series here. |

Following on the production of our 25-meme "Update your will" series, CK LLP has created a second set of law memes. This series (also containing 25 memes) quotes articles, memos and Condopædia entries written by members of the firm over its nearly 10-year history. The whole series can be seen on the firms Facebook page, or here. They are also flying freely around Twitter and Facebook throughout the month of July.
